Though it may feel as if summer just started, it’s not too soon to begin to think about how you are going to manage the modern complexities surrounding the time-honored ritual of moving your student to school. The necessities of today’s campus life have far exceeded packing up some clothes and a reading lamp. Make a list. Sounds elementary, however, making a checklist gives you a sense of just what needs to go and what it is going to take to get it there. If a box contains vital items, mark it with an “A.” Mark it with a “B” if it is important and not crucial, and “C” if he or she won’t need it right away (like cold-weather clothing).

Concentrate on one room or area at a time. To ease the potential mess involved in unpacking, focus on one room, or in the case of a single dorm room, one area at a time. This way, you’ll have a space that is uncluttered where the student can take a break from unpacking or begin their studies on time.
